Recognizing the Miracles We Overlook

I’ve been doing some serious reflecting lately—on my life, on the people around me, and most importantly, on God. And what I’ve realized is this: so many of us are missing out on the blessings that God is trying to pour into our lives. Not because we’re not good enough or because we don’t pray hard enough, but simply because we don’t recognize them when they show up.

And I want to talk about that. I want to talk about the ways we overlook blessings, and how we can learn to see with spiritual eyes again.

We Miss Our Blessings Because We Lack Faith

Let’s be honest. Sometimes we pray, but deep down, we don’t believe God’s really going to answer. We say we trust Him, but our hearts are still full of worry. That’s not faith—that’s doubt in disguise.

In Matthew 13:58, it says, “And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.” Even Jesus Himself couldn’t do miracles where there was no faith. It wasn’t that He lacked power—it’s that people lacked expectation.

How often do we talk ourselves out of a blessing? God shows up, moves a mountain, answers a prayer, and we go, “That must’ve been a mistake,” or, “That was just luck.” No—it was God! It was a miracle! And we need to stop brushing those off like they’re nothing.

We Miss Our Blessings Because We Don't Obey

Sometimes we miss out simply because we didn’t follow through.

God might nudge us to help someone, to give, to forgive, to speak a word—but we hesitate. We rationalize. We delay. And by the time we finally move, the moment has passed.

1 Samuel 15:22 says, “To obey is better than sacrifice.” That verse cuts deep, because obedience often comes before the miracle. I’ve seen it in my own life. I've felt God push me to speak to someone, or to bless someone, and when I obeyed, I saw things unfold that only God could orchestrate.

But when I ignored that voice? I later found out that I missed an opportunity to be a blessing—or to receive one myself.

We Miss Our Blessings Because of Pride and Ego

Let me get personal. One of my daily prayers is, “Lord, take my pride. Take my ego. Help me be more like You.” Because I know how easily those things creep in.

Pride will make you think you don’t need help. Ego will stop you from asking questions or admitting you're wrong. And both will block you from receiving what God has for you.

I’ve learned that humility opens doors that arrogance keeps locked. Sometimes the very thing you need is on the other side of saying, “I don’t know,” or “I was wrong,” or “God, I surrender.”

We Miss Our Blessings Because of Unforgiveness

This one might hurt a little.

Mark 11:25 says, “And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

Forgiveness isn’t about letting people off the hook. It’s about removing the block between you and God. Unforgiveness puts a dam in the middle of God’s river of blessing. It clogs up your spirit and hardens your heart. You can’t receive with a clenched fist.

You don’t have to go to dinner with someone who hurt you—but you do have to forgive them. Do it for your own healing. Do it so your heart stays open to what God wants to do.

We Miss Our Blessings Because We Don’t Recognize Divine Timing

One of the hardest lessons I’ve had to learn is that God’s timing is not my timing. Just because something isn’t happening now doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.”

Sometimes God says “not yet” because He’s still preparing you—or preparing the blessing. If He gave it to you too early, it might break you instead of bless you. You’ve got to trust the process. The waiting is not a punishment. It’s preparation.

We Miss Our Blessings Because We Focus on the Problem, Not the Promise

I've been guilty of this. Looking at the size of the obstacle instead of the size of my God.

But Philippians 4:13 reminds me, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

That means I can get through the storm. I can heal from the hurt. I can forgive. I can start over. Not in my own strength—but in His.

When I focus on the problem, I get overwhelmed. But when I focus on the promise, I get hope. And hope is what fuels faith.

We Miss Our Blessings Because We Don’t Live with Expectation

You ever walk into a situation and just hope it turns out okay?

That used to be me. But now, I walk in expecting God to do something.

I expect healing. I expect peace. I expect joy. Because I know who walks in with me.

Every room I enter, Jesus enters too. Every situation I face, I face with His power. And that changes everything.

If you start living like that—like you actually believe He’s going to show up—you’ll stop missing your blessings.

The Blessing Might Look Small… But It's Still a Blessing

Don’t despise small beginnings. Don’t overlook a gift just because it came in a package you didn’t expect.

Sometimes God blesses you with a “mellow yellow” instead of a milkshake. A kind word instead of a breakthrough. A small win instead of a big miracle. But it’s all Him.

Luke 16:10 says, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.”

Start recognizing the small stuff, and God will start trusting you with the big stuff.

Are You Ready to Stop Missing Your Blessings?

Here’s the honest truth:

  • If you’re not seeing miracles, check your faith.

  • If you’re feeling dry, check your obedience.

  • If you’re stuck, check your forgiveness.

  • If you’re bitter, check your heart.

  • If you’re impatient, check your timing.

  • If you’re overwhelmed, check your focus.

God is still moving. He’s still blessing. But if you’re not aligned with Him, you’ll miss it.

So take inventory today. Lay down the pride. Pick up your Bible. Ask God to open your eyes. Surrender the bitterness. Obey even when it’s hard. And get ready… because your blessing might already be on the way.

John 11:40 says, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe, you would see the glory of God?”

I believe that. I believe He still shows up. I believe He’s still healing. I believe He still works miracles. And I believe that today, right now, you can stop missing your blessings—and start walking in them.

But it begins with faith.

Do you believe?
